Accessibility Statement

Last updated: June 5, 2025

MaxxCity Realty is committed to ensuring that MaxxCityHomes.com is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of this platform and to meet recognized web accessibility standards.

Our Commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the newer WCAG 2.2 Level AA where applicable. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

Building an accessible product is not a one-time project — it is an ongoing commitment. As we add new features and content, accessibility is considered from the start, not as an afterthought.

What We Have Done

The following accessibility improvements have been implemented across MaxxCityHomes.com:

Keyboard Navigation (WCAG 2.1.1, 2.4.3)

  • All interactive elements are fully operable via keyboard
  • A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page for keyboard users, allowing them to bypass repeated navigation
  • Tab order follows a logical, predictable sequence throughout
  • Focus traps are applied to modal dialogs so keyboard focus stays within the dialog until it is closed

Focus Visibility (WCAG 2.4.7, 2.4.13)

  • A visible focus ring (2px solid blue outline) is displayed on all interactive elements when navigated by keyboard
  • Focus indicators meet the size and contrast requirements of WCAG 2.2 §2.4.13

Color Contrast (WCAG 1.4.3)

  • All body text and link text uses colors that meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required for normal text
  • Large text and UI components meet the 3:1 minimum contrast ratio
  • Our primary brand color (#1769B5) on white achieves a 5.22:1 contrast ratio

Screen Reader Support (WCAG 1.3.1, 4.1.2)

  • Semantic HTML is used throughout, including proper heading hierarchy
  • All navigation landmarks are labeled with aria-label
  • Active pages are identified with aria-current="page" in navigation
  • Modal dialogs carry role="dialog", aria-modal="true", and an aria-labelledby reference to the dialog title
  • Error messages use role="alert" so they are announced immediately
  • Success confirmations use role="status" with aria-live="polite"
  • Decorative images and icons carry aria-hidden="true"
  • Meaningful images carry descriptive alt text

Forms (WCAG 1.3.1, 3.3.1, 3.3.2)

  • All form inputs have associated <label> elements
  • Required fields are marked with aria-required="true"
  • Error messages are associated with their input and announced to screen readers
  • autocomplete attributes are provided on common fields to reduce user burden

Mobile & Touch (WCAG 2.5.5, 2.5.8)

  • All touch targets are a minimum of 44×44 CSS pixels
  • Swipe gestures in photo galleries have single-pointer equivalents (navigation buttons)
  • The interface is fully responsive across all screen sizes

Sticky Navigation (WCAG 2.2 §2.4.11)

  • scroll-padding is set to prevent the sticky header and fixed bottom navigation from obscuring focused elements when tabbing through the page

Consistent Help (WCAG 2.2 §3.2.6)

  • Contact information (phone, email) appears in the same location — the site footer — on every page

Known Limitations

We are transparent about areas that are still in progress:

  • Interactive map (Explore Map): The Leaflet-based map is primarily a visual tool. We are evaluating options to provide keyboard-accessible alternatives for map-based property search.
  • Third-party content: Some embedded content from third-party services (e.g., Walk Score® widgets) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We have no control over third-party code.
  • Older PDF documents: Any downloadable documents linked from listing pages may not be fully accessible. We recommend requesting an accessible format by contacting us directly.

Compatible Assistive Technologies

MaxxCityHomes.com has been developed and tested with the following in mind:

  • Screen readers: NVDA + Firefox, VoiceOver + Safari (macOS/iOS), TalkBack + Chrome (Android)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • High-contrast display modes
